The fruit fly brain, put to work.

In 2024 every connection in the brain of a fruit fly was mapped. We run that wiring unchanged and connect it to screens, cameras and bodies.

The 3D view needs WebGPU or WebGL2.

What stays fixed, and what is trained

Input

A task enters where the fly's senses enter: images at the photoreceptors, the state of a body at the neurons that report the fly's own legs. This mapping is trained.

Wiring

Each weight is the number of synapses between two neurons, signed by the neurotransmitter. The weights come from the connectome and are never trained.

Output

Actions are read where the fly's actions leave the brain: at the descending neurons that drive legs and wings in the animal. This readout is trained too.

Work with us

We look for partners with a real-time control problem: a pointer, a robot, a camera that has to follow something.
